i’m constantly torn between wanting to watch new shows, re-watching old shows and attempting to have a life that doesn’t revolve around shows

I feel so weird about Fresh Off The Boat cause a lot of the jokes are SO relatable growing up ya know, as an asian. And the jokes are written in a way that mocks a lot of white culture (the mega store and free sample joke) but it seems so easy for non asians to find it funny for racist reasons. Like “haha mom doesnt understand america” like these jokes are funny to ME cause they relate to my personal experiences. :////

I’m really worried about the Chappelle show effect this could have- where non-Asian folks laugh at the show and use the content to fuel stereotypes about Asian American and immigrant families when the goal was really for Asian Americans to laugh WITH the show and relate to it. Don’t get me wrong I am SO JAZZED this show got picked up even as a mid-season replacement but the fact remains that I don’t trust non-Asian people to appreciate it or treat it with the respect it deserves. Just the title alone kind of makes me cringe with memories of racist playground shit I had to deal with when I was young.

Anonymous said: Can you explain why Europeans were much more technologically advanced than the indigenous populations of Africa? I mean, these cultures hadn't even invented sewage systems, which is something the Romans were able to design and implement in 800-735 BC (a long fucking time before "the white man" colonized it)... I mean fuck, without "the white man", they would probably still be in the fucking bronze age.

I don’t really know what kind of history books bigots like you read.

The Great Libraries of Timbuktu? The steel metallurgy of the Haya? Dentistry? Caesarean section? Premature neonatal care? Mathematics, architecture, engineering?

I know it’s hard for a racist like you who imagines “technological advancement” to be some kind of end-all-be-all, or proof of some “inherent intelligence”. I know, I know. It’s hard to imagine, but Europeans have been drawing knowledge from everyone around them since the dawn of time. What did you think ended the Dark Ages?

Your magical (read: white supremacist) idea of a purely 'white' Rome never existed.

Nevertheless…

The Minoan culture on the island of Crete between 1500-1700 B.C.E. had a highly developed waste management system. They had very advanced plumbing and designed places to dispose of organic wastes. Knossos, the capital city, had a central courtyard with baths that were filled and emptied using terra-cotta pipes. This piping system is similar to techniques used today. They had large sewers built of stone.”

In case you needed further clarification, neither the Minoans nor other (later) Greeks were ethnically uniform. They also had the first flush toilets, dating back to 18th century B.C.E. They had flushing toilets, with wooden seats and an overhead reservoir. The Minoan royals were the last group to use flushing toilets until the re-development of that technology in 1596.

Oh, and look the Mayans had indoor plumbing, acqueducts, and pressurized water too. I mean, you can ignore that the area Mayans lived in had little to few rivers, no lakes or standing water, nor other sources of running water, while simultaneously dealing with monsoons and flooding due to one of the heaviest yearly rainfalls in the Americas.

Classic Maya even used household water filters using locally abundant limestone carved into a porous cylinder, made so as to work in a manner strikingly similar to modern ceramic water filters.

Of course, by this time millenia later none of your precious “white people” had developed any methods besides shitting in pots.

Continuing, the earliest archaeological record of an advanced system of drainage comes from the Indus Valley Civilization from around 3100 B.C.E in what is now Pakistan and North India.  By 2500 B.C.E (almost 5,000 years ago), highly developed drainage system where wastewater from each house flowed into the main drain.
All houses in the major cities of Harappa and Mohenjo−daro had access to water and drainage facilities. Waste water was directed to covered drains which lined the major streets directed to covered drains, which lined the major streets. Each home had its own private drinking well and its own private bathroom. The mains that carried wastewater to a cesspit were tall enough for people to walk through. Reservoirs, a central drainage system, fresh water pumped into the homes. Pools. Baths.

Filters for solid waste.

Sorry, what were the British doing up until like, 200 years ago? Shitting in the streets? Oh yeah.
I mean, I could get into how by the Shang Dynasty (roughly 1600 B.C.E.), China had sophisticated plumbing including pressure inverted siphons.

Or into the city of Amarna, Ancient Egypt. Or Persepolis, Persia and the Achaemenids in 600 B.C.E.
But, I mean, it sounds like the only one still in the Bronze Age is you.

I love it when people bring facts to white supremacist logic.

My three year old extends her fist to the sky and screams, “MAXIMUM GIRL POWER!” before she tackles a task and it’s the most comforting and empowering thing. Maybe I should start doing that too, that wouldn’t be weird, would it?

The odds of being attacked by a shark in the US are 1 in 11,500,000, but no one gets mad at people who want to avoid the ocean.

The odds of a woman being sexually assaulted in her lifetime are 1 in 6, but if she doesn’t feel safe around strange men she’s a stereotyping bitch.

Strange old world we live in.

bfals / drcabl3 / bfals:

joss whedon, noted feminist who fired charisma carpenter for daring to be pregnant

joss whedon, white cishet male who decides that he gets to define feminism and rebrand it to make it more appealing to himself, while also erasing the entire history of feminism and ignoring the existence of the term womanist

joss whedon, making a speech about feminism whose only mention of a female is to dismiss her entirely

joss whedon, deciding that the biggest problem with feminism is in its name and not its history of being racist, transphobic, and homophobic

joss whedon, lacking all self-awareness when twisting a brilliant junot diaz quote about poc representation to mean representation for white cis females

joss whedon, trying to equate sexism and racism while completely ignoring that woc exist and can experience both at the same time

joss whedon saying equality is important!!!!! but not casting a single asian person in his show grounded in the fusion of asian - western culture and also equating reavers (literally referring to them as the monsters of the story) with the apache

wait hold up, ignore all that, i should just be super grateful to joss “what is privilege and intersectionality?” whedon for having the courage to speak over women on a continuous basis

eta: now with links for all you asswipes who think i’m making this up solely to demonize your precious white cishet male hero (a lot of this shit is about his recent fucking terrible equality now speech)

joss whedon saying women are defined by not having a “peeny/balls” and the tries to pass it off as a joke, deletes the tweet, and completely fails to engage with trans issues when called out.

But It’s ok because buffy, right?

gross gross gross is it time to add to this post now?

  • the aforementioned tweet
  • everything in this post (warnings for talk of #rape at the link)
  • changing a character (who he did not create) that was very, very firmly established as genderqueer and writing some “but they’re really female” bullshit
  • casting a white, blonde woman to play a jewish/romani character
  • casting (surprise!) a white woman to play an ethnically ambiguous character
  • pretty much every interaction between mal and inara, in which he calls her a whore constantly, but it’s okay because he ~loves~ her
  • complete erasure of bisexuality, because apparently, willow’s previous relationships with men (oz, for one) do not matter because "hello! gay now!" and that entire “him” episode
  • being incredibly proud of himself for the “mewling quim” line in the avengers because what we really, really needed in the world was for yet another gendered insult to enter back into cultural consciousness
  • there is an endless amount of shit i could list

basically, joss whedon remains a huge fucking asshole who refuses to learn (and shuts down anybody who tries to educate him) and how many more racist, sexist, transphobic, all around shitty comments does he have to make before people stop idolizing him and defending his every move?
